The Jarboe Foundation | Thanksgiving Project
For years, turkeys were a familiar part of Thanksgiving food assistance. But as The Jarboe Foundation's Thanksgiving Project has grown, we've continued to look at how we can best support the families we're helping.
One change we've made is switching from distributing turkeys to providing grocery gift cards.
It might seem like a small change, but how assistance is provided matters. Our goal is to offer support that is genuinely useful to families, while making the best possible use of the resources entrusted to us.
Grocery gift cards give families the opportunity to make their own choices at the grocery store. Every household has different needs, preferences, and circumstances, and flexibility can make a meaningful difference when you're working within a limited budget.
Our Thanksgiving Project has always been about more than a particular food item. It's about helping families experiencing hardship and making the holiday a little easier.
As our project grows, we want to remain thoughtful about how we provide that support. That means evaluating what works, listening to the needs of the people we serve, and making adjustments when a different approach makes more sense.
This is part of our ongoing commitment to direct community support: finding practical ways to help local families while being responsible with every donation.
We're grateful to everyone who supports our work and makes these efforts possible.
